TCSH, Building 50 Front Elevation, 1890

Our first print is now available!

We are working on digitally recreating all of the buildings on the historic grounds of the Traverse City State Hospital, now reborn as The Village at Grand Traverse Commons.

  • These are not photos.
  • These are images that have never been seen before
  • These are 3D recreations from archival plans, photos and field measurements, created with the same techniques as today’s CG movies
  • These images show, to the best of our knowledge, what the buildings looked like in their prime

This first offering depicts the front of what is now called “Building 50” as it appeared in 1890.

Sample installations shown below:

That is so cool…I love that historic ‘old center’!

    Great work—great results!

Although, historically, the spires were all-white in color.

How about contacting the History Center to offer it digital copies which could promote the work Scott Smith has done?  This would make a nice permanent exhibit for their collection.
